Highway Restaurant, Padre Burgos, So. Leyte:

In a small town like Padre Burgos in Southern Leyte, a little effort goes a long way. Highway Restaurant is the first decent dining spot that is family friendly and effectively long-lasting.
It sits on a roadside fish pond and offers view of the pond, with occasional fishes, and the given greenery of the surrounding place.

Select tables are located in the middle of the pond. If you're lucky, you order, they cook, and serve the food immediately. At times, a staff may not get to list your order and some meals will not be prepared, so make sure they write it down, especially if you're with a big party.

A display of local materials are imminent upon entry. Bamboo chairs and tables, shell lamp, wooden beams and floors create one eco-happy structure.

A mini counter has few stock wines and beverages. It's where staff takes calls, take-out or advance orders, and inquiries, with a high stool for client.

Highway Restaurant often plays host to local receptions for weddings, birthdays and various events. There are quite a lot of tables available.

This constantly expanding resto attracts many foreign visitors in the area. An off bridge going to the extension dining tables adds a whimsy touch to the place.

Attendants eat and watch tv during lunch when there are few customers. When you get to your table, staff will immediately present their menu. Service is basically fast, in terms of taking orders.

Save for special occasions, the place is usually empty. Walk-in customers will have no trouble getting a seat. But mind their cooking time as it takes a bit of waiting.

At night, the resto sparkles with ceiling and wall lamps.

Separate comfort rooms for male and female patrons.

Behind this rustic treatment are the toilets. The comfort room has a clean all-white walls and simple blue tiles.

If you happen to be around the area, locals will probably recommend a meal at Highway Restaurant. Although there are new and up & coming dining establishments in the area, this restaurant still holds the Padre Burgos flag the best.

Make sure to come here out of sheer enjoyment and not when you're starving mad. Price is ok, serving size is decent. Taste is relative. Overall, it's the closest you can get in Padre Burgos when you crave a real restaurant. But with the fresh air, good food, and calming ambiance, who needs a posh city eatery?
